I find myself often agreeing with Beatrice...and I find myself presumptuously referring to her as "Beatrice". I ask a lot of Bea's questions and am curious as to your thoughts.
What impact does facebook/online communication have on your relationships? How does this balance with staying connected to people in your "clear and present" reality?
My thoughts:
ReplyDelete1) Facebook is an easy out for building relationship
2) It's part of a trend where people can "choose" their community (which city they live in, even which part of the city leans politically the way they lean, calling long-distant friends, etc.). Even I am sad I barely know any of my fellow apartment mates.
3) "Jesus came and dwelt among men". He also left the written Word.
4) I think Facebook can be used for good; it's just easy to rely on it as a primary means of building relationship, which is unhealthy.
5) I think we all need those relationships that we didn't have the option of choosing: cross-generational, different backgrounds, brothers and sisters, etc.
Summary: I think it can be used for good and bad.
